Who Uses GPS Data: Contractors, Developers, Government Agencies, Landscape Architects, Engineers and Property Managers. Any person or agency that needs accurate information to more efficiently manage their physical assets.

Sub-Meter GPS Data Collection: We use sub-meter mapping grade (shown at left) equipment for most jobs since most GEA projects are at least a hundred acres in size. Sub-meter GPS mapping gives accurate X and Y coordinates within +/- 36 inches, but we experience an accuracy level of 18" or less in most cases depending on site characteristics. This type of measurement is perfect for mapping large acreage plots and any application where Z-plane information (elevations) is not important. This method is the fastest and most cost effective means of gathering ground data over a large area, especially when combined with a digital aerial photograph.

Survey-Grade GPS Data Collection: Advanced "sub-centimeter" mapping technology for clients that require absolute accuracy. This method is appropriate for smaller sites, landscape projects or anywhere that accurate elevations in the Z-plane are desired. This is the method we use when topographic as-built maps for earth quantities are required. We set up a rover station directly on site and feel this method is superior to Total Station and other traditional surveying methods for mapping purposes and less costly.

Uses for GPS Mapping:

  • Physical data collection: square footage, points, earth/materials quantities, elevations, shapes, features, structures, water features, paths, roads, lot lines, drainage features, utilities.

  • Natural Systems: wetlands maps, tree inventory, vegetation types, conditions/health of natural features, changes between different time periods, drainage/erosion control maps, mitigation areas.

  • As-builts: irrigation, drainage, utilities, critical crossings; any physical underground utility can be mapped.

  • GIS Data: GPS mapping is the core ground-collected data to base an accurate GIS database project.

As-Builts Drafting: Utilizing both GPS mapping and CAD drafting, Golf Engineering Associates produces irrigation and drainage as-builts for developers, architects and contractors with a high degree of accuracy. We take the guesswork out of these important, permanent documents and can satisfy even the most rigid contract requirements.

Combining GPS with Digital Aerial Photography: We have the ability to combine digital aerial photography with the results of a GPS mapping project to produce an accurate, scalable and highly useable database for property management. Whether the scope is a single golf course or an entire county, combining data sets into one useable document is the most efficient means of data management we can think of. Layers of different data types are isolated so they can be turned on or off. Useful for governmental agencies, long term planning and as a base map for computerized central control systems.

For Golf Courses and Property Managers: We provide excellent hand-drawn or CAD produced as-built drawings for property management purposes. GPS mapping of your existing facilities will show how many sprinklers, valves, catch basins, trees, buildings you have in the field. Square footages of all features allow your staff to more precisely apply pesticides and expensive fertilizers. Our data can not only show you quantities, locations, size and shapes of different features, but also attributes such as health of plants, pipe repairs/leaks, sprinklers not working, etc. With accurate ground data in hand there is no more guessing about your facilities' assets - and a much more efficient property management plan can be executed.
